The partnership between the Intermountain West Joint Venture (IWJV) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM), called Partnering to Conserve Sagebrush Rangelands, enabled us to accomplish groundbreaking work in FY 2022. Focusing on our “all hands, all lands” approach to sagebrush ecosystem conservation, Partnering to Conserve Sagebrush Rangelands focuses on six work-area priorities:

  • Reduce wildfires

  • Prevent and control invasive weeds

  • Restore wet meadow and riparian habitats

  • Remove conifers that have expanded into sagebrush habitat

  • Implement range structural improvements

  • Coordinate habitat protection and restoration associated with big game migratory corridors

To get our work done, the IWJV has built relationships with with 56 BLM State, District, and Field Offices to identify barriers to planning, implementation, and evaluation, as well as working relationships with private landowners, Tribal Nations, recreationists, conservation organizations, state fish and wildlife agencies, other federal agencies, universities, corporate entities, foundations, and more.

In the seven years since this IWJV / BLM agreement began, our emphasis on partnership has enabled Partnering to Conserve Sagebrush Rangelands to secure $14,545,238 in funding to support sagebrush rangeland conservation, and deliver $38,169,347 in conservation projects for the benefit of communities, wildlife, and habitat across the West.
